WEATHER BLOG: More Humid

While this Monday will probably be every bit as mild, if not a few degrees warmer than Sunday, there will also be considerable clouds and a couple of widely-separated showers around.

Most of the shower activity will hold off until this afternoon. As the large high-pressure system starts to pull away from the Northeast Coast this afternoon, the opening up of the return flow, or a wind out of the south on the back side of the departing ridge will allow for moisture to start flowing into the area. Therefore, while it is rather unusual to toss around dialogue like “more humid” during the middle of October, we feel that this is going to be an accurate description of what Tuesday and Wednesday will feel like around here. A key reason for that is that the temperature will continue to climb, and many of them will soar well into the 70s (possibly reaching 80 on a few thermometers) each day.

This sets the stage for what will be a fairly active period of weather later this week. We expect a fairly slow-moving cold front to tap into a rich source of subtropical moisture during the second half of the week. And, the biggest challenges we’re confronted with now involve trying to nail down the timing of the steadiest and heaviest shot of rain. A plume of rich moisture will be able to cause a few pockets of heavy rain and even some thunderstorms during the second half of this week, especially on Wednesday night and Thursday in the mid-Atlantic states, and then in the Northeast (generally New York and New England) from Thursday night into Friday.
